Main Responsibilities
Editors come up with the main ideas and shape the the themes of the articles to follow the brand and determine the look and feel of the magazine. some of the articles are written by the editor but they also approach people who can complete a brief more effectively than themselves. The hosting of editorial meetings where ideas from the whole team are discussed is important in the task of producing a high quality publication. at the editorial meetings all the sub-editors and other heads of department will be present to generate ideas and divide up the work in the best way possible.
Qualifications
Editors will require a degree or (preferably) a masters in journalism to fulfil this role to the highest standard.
Experience
Students can get experience by being part of a college or university magazine where they can progress up throught the ranks until the gain editorial status, having experienced a range of different roles within the publication. This will allow a student to understand the full workings of how a magazine is put together and show enthusiasam in the job as this experience will be untertaken voluntarily. an internship is an extension of the university/college magaazine but is actually within the media industry itself and may involve commission for work. Most editors will start at the bottom and work their way up.
